THE HOLE – a poem by Leopoldo María Panero, translated by Zachary de los Dolores

Toads shine in the heavens
when The Hole shines in the middle
of a woman and of a man
embraced on the ground.
My arm points to the heavens
when to the ground falls The Hole
and the poison surrounds me:
My brain is now an anthem
and he who yesterday hurt me
as a toad shines and hides
amongst the grass of the heavens.

Sapos brillan en el cielo
cuando El Buco brilla en medio
de una mujer y de un hombre
abrazados en el suelo.
Mi brazo señala al cielo
cuando al suelo cae El Buco
y el veneno me rodea:
Mi cerebro ya es un himno
y aquél que ayer me hiriera
como un sapo brilla y se esconde
entre la hierba del cielo.
